Light Bulb Collection, Update 3 by adamlhumphreys Light Bulb Collection, Update 3 by adamlhumphreys

Update: insomniacdesign.com/ paid for a two year contract to use this on their site. How awesome is that!? :O

I just changed some bulbs for some others this time. :D

If you’re interested in these bulbs, here are some details:
From the back row: 1000bulbs.com/category/s14-sig… ; 1000bulbs.com/product/54666/IN… ; The third is a repeat of the first.

The second row are genuine 10 watt antiques. Got 5 of them on eBay as a lot, and though the filament in each one is technically broken, 4 of them still light up as the filament just shorts against another part of itself to complete the circuit. The vacuum tubes on top of the smaller bulbs are the real deal with cotton wads in the base of the bulbs.

The third row: 1000bulbs.com/product/65391/IN… ; The center bulb is a 25 watt microwave oven bulb made before the time they replaced the remaining oxygen in lightbulbs with inert gases so the filament wouldn’t oxidize; The bulb on the right is a hard to find 25 watt decorative figural chandelier bulb. A modern day equivalent (but with a candelabra base and different shape) would be this: 1000bulbs.com/product/7639/IN-…

The front row: 1000bulbs.com/product/7624/IN-… (the same bulb in my previous setup, but mine looks strange because the glass support rod broke :meow:); 1000bulbs.com/product/14/IN-00… ; 1000bulbs.com/product/68219/IN…

I have more actual antiques than this, carbon bulbs also, but I only have so much space at a time to display them unfortunately.

The church I went to growing up actually had lightbulbs very similar to this. It was relaxing and (dare I say) gothic to me. Then it got renovated and there's fluorescent lighting everywhere.

I do admit, fluorescent lighting is the way to go for actual lighting, but if I lived further north, I'd probably stick with incandescent bulbs because of the warmth and heat. I agree, they are relaxing. ^^ Thank you! :D

I was actually bummed out when I discovered the original containers for the bulbs were custom made for my church and replaced with generic containers. However after taking a few classes I understand how fluorescent lighting saves more money.

How fun! Adam, these are beautiful bulbs, and this is a great photograph! I love the reflected light on the painted surfaces in this photo, but I would also love to see some of these a little more closely with a flat black surrounding. The filaments are so lovely - these are light sculptures in glass. <3

Thank you! :iconfluttershyblushplz:
I wish I had the equipment to actually make bulbs. Pony bulbs, particularly Aerolux style figural bulbs with various phosphors would be awesome! :la:

Also, thank you so much for the watch! :iconrarityfaintplz: I'll try not to disappoint. :iconfluttershysaluteplz:

Ooooh, making custom bulbs. I could spend way too much time figure out how to do something cool like that! That would be awesome, and don't worry - you won't disappoint. ;)

there is a strange wonder about these that florescent bulbs just can't mach.

if it were not for the invention of the Light Bulb we would still all be living in darkness, a tribute to one of the worlds greatest inventions!

True indeed. And if something technologically luminescent didn't come along, we might still have screens, but we could only use them in the daytime unless you lit 20 candles or something. :XD: We use mostly CFLs in our house, but incandescent bulbs are still great for high heat and rough environments.

Thank you for the fave! :D

I s'pose I could google every single bulb in this picture to find out its name/type/provenance...

Or you could list them. (What's the strange, dim one in the lower left? I know nothing about light bulbs. Except that I like LEDs better than fluorescents.)

I also like LEDs over fluorescents.

Heh, I try. But I haven’t bought any more antiques in a while. I’d have to blame ponies for that. :meow:
